Miscellaneous

Australian Association of Bush Regenerators
Australian Association of Bush Regenerators was established in 1986 out of concern for the continuing survival and integrity of bushland and its dependent fauna in or near bushland areas, and seeks new members and friends for promoting good work practices in natural areas. The Association's aim is to foster and encourage sound ecological practices of bushland management by qualified people, and to promote the study and practice of Bush Regeneration.

South Coast Weeds

Sydney Weeds Committees
Four Regional Weeds Committees (known as the “Sydney Weeds Committees”) have formed to promote a co-operative and co-ordinated regional approach to weed management across the Sydney metropolitan region. The Committee regions are based on Local Government Authority (LGA) boundaries, and membership of each committee includes representatives from the LGAs in that area, as well from relevant state and federal agencies.
The Sydney region is characterised by large tracts of highly urbanised areas intersected with patches of native vegetation. Remnants of original bushland continue to exist as corridors, often in steep terrain, in the north and south; in isolated patches on the alluvial flats of the Cumberland Plain; and in large tracts in National Parks on the coastal and outer boundaries. Many tiny fragments are scattered throughout the built up areas of central Sydney. Everywhere bushland edges are significantly impacted on by invasive weeds, associated with adjacent urban pressures such as stormwater runoff and high nutrient loads.

The Weeds Network
The Weed's Network has been designed to help stakeholders in natural resource management learn more about invasive plants and weed control systems. The key aim of the site is to foster ongoing agroecosystem viability and resilience in an environment of changing human priorities.

Weeds Australia
An Australian Weeds Committee national initiative.

Weeds of Blue Mountains Bushland
This web site, and the free booklet on which it is based, will help you identify 30 common plants that have spread from our parks and gardens into our bushland, and it will enable you to understand the serious impact they are having on our fragile ecosystems.

Weed Societies

Council of Australasian Weed Societies
The Council of Australasian Weed Societies is an independent body that can express National and regional views on all issues relating to weeds and their management. The Council is composed of delegates from Australian State Societies and the Plant Protection Society of New Zealand that have weeds as their major focus.
The Council promotes weeds, and the people involved in their management and science, through education, awards, travel grants and publications.
The Council of Australasian Weed Societies (CAWS) was known as the Council of Australian Weed Societies (CAWS) before the Plant Protection Society of New Zealand became a Council member. Prior to that it was known as the Council of Australian Weed Science Societies (CAWSS) until 2003 when the Council dropped Science from its name to assist in recognising the diversity of personnel involved in weed management.

European Weed Research Society
The European Weed Research Society is an international organisation which promotes and co-ordinates scientific research into all aspects of weed science.
Using this site, the EWRS aims to provide support for international collaboration in weed science, partly by assisting the work of the EWRS Working Groups, and partly by providing general information and resources.

International Weed Science Society
The International Weed Science Society (IWSS) was formed in 1975, by individuals from Europe, North America, South America, and the Asian-Pacific area, to deal with global weed science issues. The Society has held three highly successful International Weed Control Congresses, in Australia (1992), Denmark (1996), Brazil (2000), and in South Africa (2004); its next Congress will be in Vancouver, Canada (2008).
The IWSS is a worldwide scientific organization, open to all who are interested in weeds and their control. The formation of IWSS was promoted actively by the six existing regional weed science societies. The purpose of IWSS is to supplement and complement their vital role. Additionally, IWSS provides benefits and functions of a weed science society not currently existing at a national or regional level.

New Zealand Plant Protection Society

Weed Management Society of South Australia
The Weed Management Society of South Australia brings together people actively involved in managing weeds and researchers with interests in protecting our agricultural and natural environments.
The Society provides a forum to share knowledge, debate issues and generate ideas, drawing on practical weed control experience and the latest research. We always welcome new members and our events are open to all.

Weed Science Group at UNE
The primary focus for weed research in this group is weed ecology and plant competition as the basis for designing appropriate and effective weed management strategies, which place less reliance on herbicides. Research projects are spread across the grains, cotton, horticultural and pastoral industries of northern New South Wales and south-east Queensland. Visit the Research Projects page for more details.
The group is a partner in the CRC for Australian Weed Management and is involved in collaborative projects with associated organisations.

Weed Science Society of America
The Weed Science Society of America is a non-profit professional society, promoting research, education, and extension outreach activities related to weeds. It provides science-based information to the public and policy makers; and fosters awareness of weeds and their impacts on managed and natural ecosystems.

Weed Society of Queensland

Weed Society of Tasmania

Weed Society of Victoria
The Weed Society of Victoria is a Society for people interested in anything about any types of weeds, their management, their place in the environment, biology and even their beauty.
